Part One

Well after a year of talking and ideas we finally decided to take a trip to Africa. Why Africa? Well this country has the most that has not been explored, even though we are going to a much favored place by tourists we feel that Namibia still has a lot to offer the Rider on a bike.

Alll details were discussed and all the relevant items, such as "Cost" time routes and sight seeing. Plus the bikes and what to take. After reading many bike touring forums we have got a general idea and the rest we make up for our own needs. But lots of tips were taken from previous riders experiences.

Getting there was a problem as most flights do not go direct, so one here, another there and the last one to Windhoek and we are set. haha maybe.

The bikes had to be stripped and looked at for anything that could go wrong, like oil leaks, suspensions and chains, tires and lights all was carefully checked. Then the luggage wracks had to be fitted and aligned so that the center of gravity was kept low. Then try the luggage and see whats what........

Then of course us, any medical problems, physical moans and groans and clothing for the rides and rest time. Rest time Tents, yep had to take them to..
Food was not a problem, as i contacted a old military friend who sent me 6 boxes of 10 man rations, the newer type that is space age design. A Fresh meal in a bag that can be eaten hot or cold but it is a real meal, like chicken supreme with "Real Chicken and sauces".

The two hardest items were fuel and water, both we would need a lot of, as gas stations were not to close together, and water is a scarcity in African desert regions. So, 5x 1 gallon containers of gas on the bike plus 4 of water..now thats heavy. Water was put into the space age bags instead of hard containers, easier to fit now. Also we managed to get the soft containers for the gas to, tip from a bikers site...
All thats left is our own personal stuff and we are loaded...are we ?? Check again !!

Medical kits, phones, laptops, cameras, video set ups, gps where are we going to put all this stuff???
How about a trailer??? hahaha no thanks..
