Namibia has declared a national emergency in five regions after floods killed 42 people and displaced thousands, with no end in sight.
"Namibia is gravely concerned over the destructive impact of the forces of nature that first brought a drought, and now severe floods," President Hifikepunye Pohamba told reporters, while calling for international help to repair roads, bridges and provide humanitarian assistance.
According to the country's emergency management unit chief, more than 4,500 people have also been made homeless in central and northern Namibia after heavy rains in neighboring Angola led to devastating floods in early March.
Most of the victims were young children or old people who appeared to have drowned when crossing floodplains at night.
The rain in Angola turns normally dry floodplains - known as "Oshonas" in Namibia - into raging rivers, washing away roads and bridges
